Saraswati Steps Up To Bat
by Stephen Nachmanovitch
solo improvisation
$12.00
In India, Saraswati is the goddess of music, and of rivers and knowledge - often depicted playing the vina, or with many arms, a useful trait for any musician.
After a number of years of exploring collective improvisation with friends, I am turning again to the solo form. I love the all-analog world of the violin where nothing is fixed and mind-waves become real, the feel of just intonation. This music is partly an exploration of the contrasting tone colors of different violins, which are ever a source of pleasure for me. The instruments used here are by Joseph Curtin, Carleen Hutchins, Annibale Fagnola, Peter Baltzerson, and Marco Nolli.
